Children of the State

http://www.csmonitor.com/2008/0312/p08s01-comv.html

This worries, angers, frustrates me.

I was homeschooled the majority of my life. When I was 15 I went to public school for one year to see how it was. I made solid A's and was bored out of my mind. I left, did 6 months of prep work and started working on an associates degree in computer science. I held a 4.0 until my last two semesters. I graduated with a 3.3 gpa at 19. I am an average student who suffers from motivation issues. I think I did fine. I now have comfortable job with banking software.

My mother was not teacher certified, and did not have -any- degree.

I plan on homeschooling my daughter. This ruling sounds like BS to me and when I think about it I am infuriated.

Just needed to get that off my chest.

Wow. That's ridiculous.

I was homeschooled, too, up until I was 16, when I started going to the local community college. My mom's not a certified teacher, she has no teaching degree, or ANY degree for that matter. But we had good curriculum, and when we took the yearly comprehension tests (put on by the state), all of my brothers and sisters and I scored post-high-school on everything.

It's ridiculous that any state would want to do this, especially when it's obvious by the fact that these children are being homeschooled in the first place, that the parents are unhappy with the results of the public school system.

There's something about the statement in regards to children not learning "loyalty to the state" that reminds me of Hitler.

I went to public school all my career (luckily i got into the best high school in the county, one of the best in state), but I've known many home-schooled kids. There are definitely some pros and cons about each one. I am all for home schooling, but if it were up to me I would make th parents take a course or something. Not on the subjects, but on teaching methods. Then of course I like the idea of comprehension tests as well. I've known some smart kids come from home schooling, but I've also seen the ill effects of lazy parents that don't care as much as they should.

The Cat is Out of the Bag

I wonder where that expression comes from? There is this fabulous book that can tell you, only I forgot the name of it. Next time I come across it I think I'm going to have to buy it. Anyway. I was going to wait. A long time. Maybe forever. I don't like people coming up and hugging me, smiling and saying congratulations, or asking me questions. But Damm was talking to his recruiter about insurance. And he mentioned something that he should've told the recruiter was non-repeatable, because 5 minutes later the recruiter told Damm's mother (I have no earthly idea why he's talking to her-I keep forgetting to ask). After that I had to tell my mother. We haven't told any extended family members because there are quite a few here celebrating Damm's mother's graduation and that would be the worst form of torture I can imagine. So yeah, I'm knocked up again :P And this time I'm getting the t-shirt. "It" is due August 11. I have not been to a doc...

Guildless.

Me and Wulfa are now guildless. This came as kinda a shock and with no communication from the deciding party. I'm currently looking for a guild for us. We are not "raiders" and will never be. We do research our gear and fights and in general our classes. We are looking for a guild that we can be a part of, chat with, and not be expected to raid or be on specific times. I think that means we're looking for a "social" guild. We are primarily alliance but once finances get squared away(aka my bonus arrives) we could possibly convert to horde. If anyone knows of any guilds that they would recommend please let us know.

Gearing up the wulfa.

Okay so Wulfa needs a little bit of help. And as I'm officially her 'researcher' like she is my 'banker' here is what I've got: I am suggesting she get Mongoose on her spear for + a bunch of agility . Her spear is a really good one and it should be okay at this point to get enchants. I'm an idiot and didn't read the enchant. Sorry I thought that was a static + agi and a chance for weapon speed increase. The normal + agi enchant it is then. Thanks Crashandburn for noticing. And her bow I'm suggesting she get a plus hit scope . I am suggesting she gem anything and everything with Rigid Golden Draenites because right now her hit rating is below 142 which is what I've seen as the magic number for hunters to stop missing. Missing right now is a huge drag on her dps so lets get that stopped right away. I noticed her ring was a bit old and suggested: http://www.wowhead.com/?item=31527 http://www.wowhead.com/?item=27733 http://www.wowhead.com/?item=303...
