INSANITY. Day 9.

Ok, question for all you readers: what type of recovery food/liquids do you like to consume? INSANITY/p90X sells a recovery formula but it's way too expensive for our budget. And I kinda do want something for those mornings that I can't eat my specially-made, nutrition-packed breakfast bars (recipe to come). And Damm still won't give up his sugary, really-bad-for-you oatmeal that has no protein in it nor essential vitamins and minerals. I've heard chocolate milk does wonders ... that combined with a banana? I've never really liked to use supplements but INSANITY is kicking my butt and I want to make sure I'm doing everything I can to facilitate recovery and results.

Today was Pure Cardio again. I did better-not as many breaks-but the pushups are still hard. I just cannot go at the pace everyone-including the women-are going at. It'll come. I really hope. They have some awesome arm muscles. And I'm beginning to feels my abs participate in the workout. I'm not sure what this means-were there no muscles there before? Or the muscles were there but I wasn't doing the workouts properly? Or I've managed to increase my core strength and they're helping me push it farther? And Damm's opinion on today's workout: "I was almost able to make it through the warmup without taking a break."

Ok, recipe for super-awesome breakfast bars.

Oven @ 375
3 cups Oats (not instant)
2 cups Flour
1/2 cup Brown Sugar
2 tsp. Baking Powder
1 tsp. Baking Soda
1 tsp. Salt
1/2 cup Coconut Flakes
1/4 cup chopped nuts (I use walnuts but of course one could use a different variety)
And varying amounts of the following spices: Cinnamon, cloves, Nutmeg, Allspice. I don't measure these. I put in what smells right that day.
1 scoop Vanilla Whey Protein Powder
1 cup Vanilla Yogurt
2 cups Milk
2 eggs
2 green apples, chopped. You can also use bananas and I'm sure other fruits should you wish.

Mix everything together, pour into 11x13" pan, bake anywhere from 40-60 minutes. Use your nose. I sometimes sprinkle a bit of sugar and cinnamon mix on top before baking. You can up the sugar-my mother-in-law first came up with this recipe and she avoids sugar. I usually heat my bars up, pour Organic Whole Milk on them, and savor for as long as I can.

No idea calorie/fat/etc. content. It makes 12 bars the way I cut them and I eat 2 every morning.

Chocolate Milk, or Beer. A lot of chocolate milk has sugar or corn syrup in it though.

"Damm still won't give up his sugary, really-bad-for-you oatmeal..."

I thought oatmeal was good for you, or is Damm eating the imitation oatmeal that comes in boxes of 8-10 individual packets?

I had also read that chocolate milk is very good as a recovery food but Scott is right; look out for the bonus sugar and corn syrup that you really don't need.

I drink Soy Milk myself and have done so for a couple of years. Silk Light is good. The Fresh & Easy brand of Soy Milk is also very tasty. I'm not working out and so I haven't lost any weight, but I haven't gained any either. At 40 years old that's always a plus :)

If you can stand the switch from Dairy to Soy you might want to consider a banana-soy shake. You can even throw an egg in there for good measure. As long as it's mixed thoroughly you won't even notice the egg, except for the taste, but as egg tastes pretty much the same whether cooked or raw that's kind of irrelevant. And yes, I speak from personal experience. Get past the consistency and raw egg tastes exactly like cooked egg :}

Smoothies are the bomb. Jamba Juice is awesome, or you can make your own - I've found a couple pretty sweet recipes.
I use Metamucil. Works great. :D

RAMBLY Political Responses.

Sub-Teach, On monday, I had about 80% of this written as a reply to your comment before I figured I should just drop it into a post. Yay for thought spam from simple commentary. To be clear: I'm not anti-our-current-president. I didn't like his solution for the recession(the bailout(which was started by our previous president)) but I'm certainly not blaming the recession on him. I understand that it was my dear party that thought you could spend AND cut taxes at the same time. I'm not really in favor of the way in which the other party wants to extend the tax cuts(cutting some and not others). I would rather we let all of the tax cuts expire and everyone equally paid a little bit more. BUT I'm really not happy with the idea that we can extend all of them when we are in record levels of national debt, which is what my party espouses. No our current president didn't have much time to fix the economy...and any good/harm he did probably won't be evident

A post!

So Beowulfa recieved the Burning Crusade as one of her many christmas presents. As a side note, she also recieved a picture of a chick with a pet lion. Sort of like Angharad. Anyways, we're poking Drenai characters in a "ooo that would be cool" kind of way. Since it was her birthday present and all... and if the characters were not BElf or Spacegoat then it wouldn't be using the present! So we're going to at least get them to 10. And BElf's are too... pretty in an ugly way. I don'ts like them. She doesn't like them(much?). I said Spacegoat. She quickly created a male drenai priest(this morning). We talked about it at lunch and she's going to make a paladin instead, I think. I slightly warned her off of priest because I've heard they solo about as well as a warrior heals. I'm.... undecided. We have warrior, paladin, mage, priest, shaman, hunter. I've been told I need to be something tankish. So mage and priest are gone. I'm definin
