Election thoughts.

Staring at an election in which my knee-jerk party of choice has just been very extremely clearly been given a mandate to fix things I can only wonder at what the next few years will bring.

My worries are that despite the extremely positive message for my party that this election has brought that the party will not remedy the economy and will be so focused on "keeping Obama to one term" that they do nothing good for the nation.

I'm all for gamesmanship and "winning" but if you do nothing with your victory but crow about it then you don't deserve to win. Republicans need to sit down and get their asses to work. They need to ignore the political games and work on fixing things. If they don't then I imagine that before my kids are able to vote there will be a new party that will.....

Off subject: Hey Wulfa, didn't you have a post about your swimming and a book you're reading to improve your technique?

I can't seem to find the post.

Wulfa posting about something... CHECK

Wulfa swimming? ahahahhaha(no).

And my overly dramatic/sarcastic/ironic/whateveradverb response is me being silly not bashing your otherwise completely legit question. She doesn't like the swimming. Its not us boss.

I wouldn't look to seeing too much to get done. The Reps did make a statement by taking control of the house, it won't lead to drastic change. Unless both sides learn to compromise (i laugh at that concept) then the only things Reps will do i slow down the Obama machine. Until now, Dems had control of both House and Senate and they did squat, but I do know that whatever the House approves, the Senate won't and vice versa. A lot of damage has already been done. It's going to take more than one term to get it going in the right direction.... I just hope this is the start of it.

Well, Dammer, that would explain why I couldn't dig it up. Dang.

@Rusty: it's called Total Immersion, created by Terry Laughlin. ISBN:9780743253437, can be found at B&N so I assume it's also on Amazon. It's the technique my mom uses to teach her triathlon trainees, and she also was training me several years ago with the technique. I actually managed to finish a sprint triathlon:)

@Damm: I don't like swimming but that doesn't mean I haven't tried to improve my technique. Pfft.

Well, well, well, my memory isn't as faulty as I thought...

HA!

Oh, and thanks Wulfa!

@Rusty: Lol you be welcome.
I am impressed with the short term memory as the debacle of the Bush years is only recent history. His republican administration was what got the States into the economic mess it is in today. I think Obama is in a no win situation.... damned if you do, damned if you don't. Change is slow. Everyone was condemning his leadership without really giving him a chance to actually accomplish anything. I don't think it really matters which party is in the whitehouse, there will always be masses of people who are quick to judge and condemn. Nobody is perfect, but give the guy a chance to show what he can do.

@Substitute Teacher: short-term memory seems to be an endemic problem in the U.S. I'm taking Civil War history and it didn't take long for the North to tire-to forget, in other words-why they were attempting to "Reconstruct" the South. 9/11 seemed to fade from the collective memory fairly quickly as well.

What I hope is that the two parties won't stalemate each other and that legislating will go on. Far too much time is spent, in my opinion, on attacking the other party. But that is how politics have been played throughout much of American history, and I don't foresee it changing soon. As for giving Obama a chance ... well, that is the way of the American system and it is why so many early politicians were concerned about giving the vote to the masses, who could so easily be swayed by emotion and not by logic (of course there were many other reasons as well, and those same politicians were just as susceptible to emotion). If he doesn't score with the general public then I don't know if he'll win a second term, and the general public has spoken volubly by voting in Republicans.

I am rambling ... not entirely certain I addressed the entirety of your comments.

@ST: I will admit that the later years of the Bush administration was plagued with some bad decisions, but what people don't understand is that the Democrats had control of the House AND Senate for the last 2 (might be four, can't remember) years of his term. When a president has both of those against him, there ain't too much he can do. Now Bush himself did make some rash in bad choices, but people like to throw him under the bus when the blame is really a lot of peoples, not one man nor administration. Obama has been in office for 2 years WITH the House and Senate controlled by the Democrats. He should be able to get anything done he wants. People gave him his chance, and the reason his approval ratings are going down is because all he's done is spend money we don't got, and take vacations and "business trips".

RAMBLY Political Responses.

Sub-Teach, On monday, I had about 80% of this written as a reply to your comment before I figured I should just drop it into a post. Yay for thought spam from simple commentary. To be clear: I'm not anti-our-current-president. I didn't like his solution for the recession(the bailout(which was started by our previous president)) but I'm certainly not blaming the recession on him. I understand that it was my dear party that thought you could spend AND cut taxes at the same time. I'm not really in favor of the way in which the other party wants to extend the tax cuts(cutting some and not others). I would rather we let all of the tax cuts expire and everyone equally paid a little bit more. BUT I'm really not happy with the idea that we can extend all of them when we are in record levels of national debt, which is what my party espouses. No our current president didn't have much time to fix the economy...and any good/harm he did probably won't be evident

A post!

So Beowulfa recieved the Burning Crusade as one of her many christmas presents. As a side note, she also recieved a picture of a chick with a pet lion. Sort of like Angharad. Anyways, we're poking Drenai characters in a "ooo that would be cool" kind of way. Since it was her birthday present and all... and if the characters were not BElf or Spacegoat then it wouldn't be using the present! So we're going to at least get them to 10. And BElf's are too... pretty in an ugly way. I don'ts like them. She doesn't like them(much?). I said Spacegoat. She quickly created a male drenai priest(this morning). We talked about it at lunch and she's going to make a paladin instead, I think. I slightly warned her off of priest because I've heard they solo about as well as a warrior heals. I'm.... undecided. We have warrior, paladin, mage, priest, shaman, hunter. I've been told I need to be something tankish. So mage and priest are gone. I'm definin
